- BEHIND THE SCENES -

In 2018 we were brought to Alaska to film with the Wild & Exposed Podcast crew in search of the best wildlife and scenery Alaska has to offer! We created a series to vlogs for the Wild & Exposed YouTube channel documenting the adventures. To this day this is one of our favourite projects we've produced!

The hosts of the Wild & Exposed wildlife photography podcast needed to grow their audience base and online presence. This vlog series is intended to be binge-able content, attracting viewers and sponsors to what the Wild & Exposed crew is up to. We wanted the content to appeal to multiple audiences - photographers, nature and wildlife enthusiasts, travel enthusiasts, and outdoor adventurers alike.

To be successful, the video series needed to have two important qualities:

  1. The videos needed to have a high entertainment value, compelling people to continue watching to find out what happens next. This was achieved through fast paced content, driven storytelling, and of course, mesmerizing footage and photos of the animals and landscape we were surrounded by.

  2. The videos also needed to offer viewers high value information, making audiences want more content to improve their own wildlife photography skills. The valuable information presented includes photography tips and tricks, facts about animal behaviour, and trip information for people hoping to plan similar excursions of their own.

- THE PRODUCTION -

We tagged along with the podcast crew for 10 days in Alaska, making sure to capture the narrations along the way which would form the backbone of the stories in the videos. We were constantly shooting complimentary footage as well, called “b-roll” to piece together the visuals of the story and increase visual interest overall.

This production involved miles of hiking through the tundra with our equipment, so we needed fast and light gear to allow us to keep up with our photographer companions (and oh boy do they ever move fast when the wildlife appears!). This meant that we also needed gimbal camera stabilization, since tripod setups would be cumbersome and limiting on the type of terrain involved.

The hard terrain meant we also needed proper outdoor equipment along with our camera gear - hiking boots, rain gear, and various degrees of insulation for any type of weather we would encounter in those 10 days.

After the trip, we returned to home base and cut the footage together into short, punchy clips that would entice viewers online.

- THE RESULT -

The footage we captured turned into 12 episodes which have achieved close to 8,000 views / 20,000 minutes of viewed content.

These videos achieved a viewership that is roughly double, and occasionally 3-4x their average view count at the time of upload.

"Tyler has joined me on some unforgettable trips over the past couple of years, including our epic adventure into the Alaskan mountains where he did an excellent job filming our wildlife photography tips, tricks, and challenges!

Tyler's creative eye and editing talent generated a series of highly entertaining YouTube vlogs for our channel.

I would highly recommend Tyler...unless it's for during the same time that I'd like to hire his services again!"
